Speaking with media, she shared, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was moving hastily like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, through repeated campaigns, public figures do not make a difference whatsoever on electoral choices.”

The actor went on, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire tearing the country apart.”

Growing up with Republican parents in Kentucky, she voted for the Republican nominee in 2008 prior to switching to the left-leaning politics and revealing she realized during Obama’s administration that supporting the GOP was voting against her personal freedoms as a woman.

In 2015, she stated that Trump winning the presidency would be “a disaster” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “since I believe she’s a strong contender and I know that she will take all necessary steps to defend reproductive rights.”

Lawrence was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her rejection of Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the minimal impact public figures have over the electoral decisions was underscored by Trump’s victory.

“The second term appears changed,” commented Lawrence of Trump’s presidency. “As he stated his intentions. We were aware of his actions for his first term. He was explicit. And that’s what we chose.”
