Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.

The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

Statistically, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
